Sustainable Japanese Packaging Design

In the 01.2010 issue of the German magazine PAGE I give a round-up of 'sustainable' packaging design in Japan. It's all in German, but I'd like to share "the probably most sustainable take-out lunch" mentioned in the article, and where to get it in Kyoto.

At the food hall in the basement of the department stores Isetan (at the main station) and Daimaru (Shijo-Dori) be on the look-out for kakisen, sushi wrapped in kaki leaves.

All what remains is biodegradable: Leaves and small paper labels indicating the flavor of the sushi. Plus a paper bag in which all the sushi you select are packaged.
Don't forget to bring your own shopping bag!
